Product information & technical details

Description

This is an optimised filament sensor for the Orbiter2 extruder from LDO Motors, which can be connected directly to the extruder's Orbitool USB toolboard. Compared to the previous version, this sensor has been improved in many ways and is supplemented with useful features:

  • automatic filament loading,
  • detection of entangled filament,
  • filament runout detection,
  • filament unloading action button,
  • onboard microcontroller,
  • designed to run under Klipper, but is not limited to this firmware.

Detection of entangled filament

If the filament becomes tangled, more force is required to pull the filament into the extruder. The filament sensor detects this error and pauses the printing process to indicate the problem to the user.

This detection is activated when the pulling force exceeds 1 sec/2 kg.

Onboard microcontroller

An 8-bit onboard microcontroller performs signal filtering and plausibility checks to filter out false alarms and interference.

Display of the status of the extruder or sensor

The filament sensor is equipped with a collet clamp for better closing of PTFE tubes with an RGB light ring. The light ring shows the status of the extruder or the sensor:

  • red = filament was not recognized
  • green = filament present
  • blue flashing = filament is being discharged
  • yellow flashing = filament is tangled
